Crows, ravens, jays and other birds cause huge financial losses for nut farmers. Each crow or raven in your orchard can consume or steal up to a half pound of nuts every day from husk split through harvest. In the process of stealing a single nut they often knock many more to the ground, making them unsellable. It’s estimated that a flock of 200 crows can cause up to $45,000 in crop loss in a single season in a pecan orchard. Crows and ravens also damage irrigation lines and steal emitters, causing some trees to suffer root rot while others die from lack of water.
